I think we can all agree that the way healthcare is delivered in this country and our current system is failing most of us. It is one that focuses more on diagnosing and treating disease and illness, than preventing it. It focuses more on profit than it does on people. We put band aids on large gaping wounds and hope we make a difference. But in all reality, our current system is set up to keep us coming back for more. Not because we want to, but because we have to.
The health and wellness industry capitalizes on our struggles, all of these said gaps in care and failures in our broken healthcare system. They, too, are often focused on profit. Many want to help people and do care, but many are just trying to turn a profit to keep their business going. Women are often the most vulnerable and most at risk, many of which are going through hormonal changes that go unaddressed or dismissed by their healthcare providers. I know this because I’ve been one of them.
Did I mention that the amount of information on health and wellness at our fingertips is SO overwhelming and difficult to weed through? It's confusing and often very hard to keep up with. And it can be really hard to figure out what's right for us, instead of focusing on what's working for everyone else. This is why it matters SO much where you get your information and advice from.
There’s absolutely a place for holistic and integrative care, especially when it comes to overall wellness and prevention of disease and illness. At Empowered Mind and Body, we get that and absolutely are on board with that. It’s part of who we are at Empowered Mind and Body and it's one of the big reasons this practice was started. But it’s not at the expense of ignoring science, research and all that we’ve learned this far. Both are needed and both are true. This is where the grey area of overlap comes in. It’s not one or the other…it’s an and both scenario. It's what our current healthcare system is lacking and what is so desperately needed. And it’s what we do best at Empowered Mind and Body.
We take the time to listen to your concerns and try to uncover the root cause of them. We follow the research as we know it, but also spend a lot of time discussing lifestyle and behaviors, supplements and other modalities that might be helpful to you and your goals. We know that health care is so much more than treating a disease or using a medication. It's about health promotion, disease prevention, and improving our mental and physical well being. We know there is a place for all of it and are here to answer questions and help you weed all of the confusing information around health and wellness that's out there.
Remember that when it comes to your health…
Research, especially really good peer reviewed research matters.
Credentials and education matter.
Experience matters.
You and your health matter.
